Ready or not, it's fall!
Alright, I must admit, I have always been a big summer fan, but as I get older, I realize some of my favorite things happen in the fall. Plus, I am becoming more and more of a fan of the cooler weather. I think this year, I have been more excited for fall than I have ever been. I mean what's not to love!?
Pumpkin spice, cool breeze, sweaters, apple picking, pumpkin patches, and all the best things happen in the fall.
WAIT I forgot to mention another thing fall is great for... FALL MINIS and FALL SESSIONS!!
My fall minis
My fall minis are quickly approaching on October 19th at Pumpkin Creek Farms! I could not be more excited for this location because when I picture fall, my mind is transported to Pumpkin Creek Farms! They have everything needed for the best family pumpkin patch day; from those famous donuts, farm animals, music, games and activities for kids, hayrides, corn bins, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. Each year they always get better and better! Even if you aren't getting fall minis done by me, be sure to set a date in your calendar to check them out!
Okay, back to my fall minis! They will be at Pumpkin Creek Farms on October 19th. I still have THREE spots available at 3:15 PM, 3:45 PM, and 4:00 PM. They are 15-minute time slots, and families will receive 10 edited images back, with the option to purchase more! Pricing for fall minis is $100. Picking outfits for fall photos
Let's be honest, the preparation for getting photos done can be the most stressful part. When you book with RG Photography by Courtney, I want you to know I make this process from the time of booking to the time your gallery is delivered as stress free as possible. Leading up to your session you receive a session guide to prepare you for what to expect, outfits, location choices, and more. But, with fall minis approaching, why not dive into how to pick the perfect outfits for photo sessions for today's blog!? Below are my top tricks for picking outfits for the season!
- Be comfortable! I want you to feel your best because that's what this is all about. While I believe, you will look great in whatever you decide, I want you to feel confident in what you have on. Pick something that is "you" and your confidence will be ready for pictures
- Think about the season! For the sake of us discussing fall minis, think warm and cozy clothes. Sweaters, layers (vests, cardigans, jackets, etc.), boots, long pants, and long dresses are the perfect items to start with when planning out your outfits! This helps create the scene we are trying to convey in pictures, plus it helps you stay warm and comfortable while getting pictures taken!
- Think coordinating not matching. Try not to have everyone wearing the same color or same print. This can cause people to blend together, and pictures can turn out very flat. By adding different prints and a mixture of coordinating colors you will add depth and variety into your photos to create a beautiful masterpiece. Another thing to note, not everyone has to wear the same type of clothing. While the style you are going for (casual vs. dressy) should match, all the girls don't have to wear dresses, etc. Some girls can wear leggings with a sweater, while another wears a dress.
- Colors to incorporate: I highly suggest neutral and pastel colors. For fall, I sway heavily towards neutrals and muted tones for recommending colors, but also staying away from WHITE. Recommended colors can include beige, browns, mustard, rust orange, and olive green.
- TOP FALL OUTFIT COLORS AND PRINTS: Beige, all shades of brown, mustard, rusty orange, brick, camel, olive green & denim are all great color choices for fall photos. When choosing patterns, incorporate plaid and fall neutral florals!
- Colors to avoid: I heavily suggest staying away from bright and neon colors. While they are fun and a color you might wear on a day-to-day basis, they cast onto skin and can show up in pictures. For instance, when wearing a bright pink shirt, it reflects onto the person's skin that's standing next to the person with the bright shirt on.
- Think layers and accessories: Don't stop at throwing on a quick sweater and jeans for the family and call it a day! Layers are what transforms a good outfit to a great outfit, and they make the world of difference in pictures. Dig out and add those cardigans, vests, flannel shirts, these cute baby overalls, and jewelry for your session. Try not to go overboard, but definitely incorporating layers into your pictures are a great choice.
- Ask me!: Trust me, I've been there... overwhelmed by all the outfit choices and combinations. As your photographer, I am here for much more than snapping your pictures for your session. I am here to help you prepare for your session all the way to delivering your gallery.
